Simple Early Doll and More....

This is what I have been doing the month of March ! Sewing for the most part ! I made a simple early doll with her own pin keep box.. The box matches the bluebird pin keep box I have for sale in my etsy shop.. click the photo on the sidebar.

I have also made two Civil war journals.. one with Confederate currency and one with Union currency and your choice of photo.

I love these Civil War Journals ! The reproduction currency came from the Smithsonian Museum of American History when I was there in March.

From my own pattern, I made a Colonial Ladies Pocket from osnaburg and a civil war reproduction looking fabric. I embroidered the flower design on the front and it has been coffee dyed for an old time worn look. The 20 " long bonnet is made from muslin and is coffeedyed.

They are listed in my little corner of TDIPT Mercantile this month. click the link to take a peek ~

In between sewing , I have been getting out and walking laps around the mall and outside when the weather is warm.

As for the house... cleaning, etc... looks like that will be a project this week !

Linda

Antiques and Aged Ambience......

The best prim booth at the Dairyland Antiques Mall in Reedsville, PA on Rt. 655 off Rt. 322.. Yep, I had permission from the owner to post on my blog.. she is a sweetheart ! These photos were taken yesterday.

Rt. 655 is another one of my favorite roads in PA. Quaint little villages, Amish folk, farms, small shops, quilt shops, etc. Even signs with Bible verses on them ! I love it ! They could use a few of those signs in D. C.

My dh and I took off yesterday for a quick road trip, more or less, but took time to dine at Duffy's Tavern in Boalsburg on the way back from Reedsville and Belleville, Pa.

To find a decent quilt shop with the fabric that I like, I have to travel approximately 95 miles one way. At least there are a couple of antique stores on the way. There is a nice antique mall called Dairyland Antiques in Reedsville on Rt. 655.

This is the view I had when dining ~ looking at the well used fireplace ( they do still use this when it is cold outside ) , the timeworn and scorched floors from a fire in 1934, and the aged brick walls and, also, the stairwell going up to the loft.

There are numerous fireplaces within Duffy's Tavern.

I have posted photos of Duffy's Tavern before a couple of years ago or so on my blog. So, I have tried to take different photos.

The tavern was built in 1819 and was once a stagecoach stop.

It is located in Boalsburg, ( home of Memorial Day ) ,not far from State College on Rt. 45 off of Rt. 322. The food is good ~ soup, sandwiches , salads and wings and things.. tavern type food.

The ambience is priceless ..

Have a great warm spring day !

Blessings and Hugs,
Linda

Spring , Robins, Warmer Weather... and Washington D C

The forsythia bushes are coming out in their yellow splendor in Washington, D C as were the hyacinths and daffodils, etc.

Some more photos from the Smithsonian that I took on Saturday. The photo above was inbetween the buildings in a garden type setting not far from the Space Museum.

A silver tree ..I think this was in the Sculpture garden.

Thomas Jefferson's bible that he created.

I saw my first robin yesterday, but my dh saw them a few days ago..

It was 65 degrees here yesterday and sunny ! Great for it only being the first part of March..

So off to work I go.. have a fun day everyone !

Hugs,
Linda

Amazing Antiques .....

Yes, this is Abraham Lincoln's top hat ! I have to go back to get a better photo of it.

Washington's dinnerware.

Adam's dinnerware 1797-1801

Polk's dinnerware. 1845-1849

Now this dinnerware above that was Lincoln's is just perfect for a President! It is timeless.

Reagan's was classy, too.

Clinton's dinneware.

I think this is President Grant's carriage, if I remember correctly.

Doesn't this dress remind you of Scarlett ?

Nancy Reagan's Gown. I love wearing a red dress, too !

Caroline Harrison's gown below. two different views of it.

At the American History Museum, they had part of a house cut away so you could see how it was built and a view of some of the rooms inside as they would have looked way back when.

But the only photo I was able to get was of the painting.. too many people around to take a proper photo.

The dinosaur room.. my friend is on the right edge of the photo above.

Smile !

A little gold nugget, anyone ?

My favorite dinnerware of the Presidents' table would be Mary Todd Lincoln's. Just perfect ! Boy, did she have good taste !

There were so many people in this area of the gowns and dinnerware, it was very difficult to take photos.

The Star Spangled Banner is also displayed at the American History Museum. It is the flag that Frances Scott Key wrote the song for in 1814. ( The war of 1812. ) You are forbidden to take photos in this area of the flag.

Below is a link to see the flag I saw at the museum and some info about it.

It seems the best time to go to popular historic destinations is during the week, Monday thru Thursday.

More photos tomorrow if I get a chance.

I thank the Lord for safe travels we had on Saturday and pleasant weather considering all the storms that were around the day before.

Prayers for the people affected from the storms/tornadoes last week.

Hugs,
Linda
